Scott Helmers, a partner with the Harvard Computing Group, explains how efficient management of your organization's supply chain can make your company more competitive. To illustrate the points Helmers makes, the program includes interviews with two executives at Vector SCM: Greg Humes, vice president and COO, and Jim Para, managing director of IT. Scott Helmers - Presenter
Scott Helmers is a partner with the Harvard Computing Group, where he manages the education practice in addition to consulting on e-business technology and process issues. He has worked in several dozen countries and has delivered seminars in India, Ireland, Egypt, Jordan, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, and the United States since 2000. Scott is the creator of the acclaimed 'Driver's Ed for the Information Superhighway' seminar series. In the years before joining Harvard Computing Group, Scott ran his own consulting firm, and held positions in business development, product management, technical support and software development for several companies, including Action Technologies, Cabletron Systems and Wang Laboratories.

Greg Humes - Guest
Gregory A. Humes is vice president and chief operating officer of Vector SCM, a joint venture between General Motors (GM) and CNF Inc. that serves as GM's lead logistics manager worldwide. A 19-year veteran of the automotive logistics industry, Mr. Humes is responsible for the planning, design and execution of the company's technology and physical infrastructure to provide end-to-end visibility for products and materials as they move within GM's supply chain. Mr. Humes joined Vector SCM in his current capacity in February 2001. He previously served as president of the Global Automotive division of Penske Logistics, where he was responsible for global logistics services, from order to delivery. Under his leadership, Penske Logistics Global Automotive more than tripled its annual revenues and developed major global logistics initiatives for Ford, General Motors, Toyota, Daimler-Chrysler, Saturn and T-1 Suppliers. Humes began his career at Leaseway Transportation Corp in 1983. In 1995, when Penske Truck Leasing acquired Leaseway, he was named senior vice president of operations, central region. He was promoted to president of global automotive in 1998. Mr. Humes serves on the boards of directors of the National Automotive Transporters Association and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. He is a member of the Michigan State University Supply Chain Management Council, the Council of Logistics Management Roundtable, the Global Logistics Council of Europe, the Automotive Industry Action Group, and the Michigan Minority Business Development Council. Mr. Humes is based at the company's headquarters in Novi, Mich. He earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Western Michigan University, and an M.B.A. in finance and administration from the school of administration at Central Michigan University.

Jim Para - Guest
James Para is managing director of Information Technology at VectorSCM, where he has introduced a number of new technology initiatives, including: network design tools, global visibility, data warehouse and supply chain analytics. He has 33 years of IT experience, the last 23 working with technology products and services in support of improving logistics provider operations, or improving a company's supply chain. He spent 12 years with Leaseway Transportation (now Penske Logistics), the last three as VP of IT, where he was involved with the development and deployment of decision support tools, inbound and outbound transportation management, over-the-road satellite communications, bar coding, and warehouse management applications. He also spent four years as VP of IT at Caliber Logistics, now FedEx Supply Chain Services. Jim has also worked independently with companies who provide technology support and services to the logistics provider and supply chain industry.
