Course Overview
The Extensible Business Reporting Language, or XBRL, is a language that enables the electronic communication of financial data. XBRL has truly revolutionized business financial reporting around the globe. XBRL offers an opportunity for IT professionals to closely align with their business colleagues; working jointly to solve reporting problems and issues well before financial reports are filed with government entities.

This three-part WatchIT, Core Technologies series, features educator and XBRL expert, Thomas Tribunella. Mr. Tribunella is a Certified Public Accountant and an associate professor at the State University of New York’s, Oswego campus.

This first program in the series provides an overview of XBRL and discusses its impact on IT. Part two will examine XBRL taxonomy building and coding and part three explores using XBRL with spreadsheets and other systems.

Thomas Tribunella earned his PhD at the State University of New York at Albany, MBA at the Rochester Institute of Technology, BBA at Niagara University, and is a Certified Public Accountant in New York State. He has been teaching, writing, and consulting for over 20 years. Dr. Tribunella has published over 35 journal articles, case studies, book chapters, and conference proceedings. He has also won four best paper awards at academic conferences. His teaching and research interests are in the field of Accounting Information Systems.
