Business for Engineers

In their practices engineers must deal with a variety of business topics in order to successfully maintain and expand their business. An engineer should develop ethics early in his career and constantly apply ethical considerations in all his dealings with the public and colleagues. Engineers should also have at least a basic knowledge of accounting in order to minimize accounting risk, and should be familiar with financial statements and their impact on the success of their own practices. Equally important is the successful use of marketing tools to research new markets, generate leads, and use public relations effectively. And last, but not least, is an ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues with written reports, emails, presentations, and other forms of written communication.
